For the first time ever, access to the World Â鶹ÊÓƵ Congress is free of charge and open to all. Virtual events will be broadcast online across multiple timezones, with video on-demand services available for all registrants.

Over 150 speakers will address more than 30 virtual events over three weeks between 7-24 September 2021.

The Congress is expected to draw decision-makers and practitioners from industry, governments, civil society, finance, multilateral organisations and academia from more than 100 countries.

A once in a generation opportunity

On the eve of the United Nations Climate Conference (COP26), the stage is set for the 2021 World Â鶹ÊÓƵ Congress to become a once-in-a-generation opportunity for hydropower to demonstrate its critical role in the race to achieve a net-zero future.

The multi-stakeholder event is organised by the Â鶹ÊÓƵ (Â鶹ÊÓƵ) and hosted in partnership with the Government of Costa Rica and ICE, the national electricity provider, under the theme 'Renewables Working Together'.

San José Declaration

The historic outcome of the 2021 Congress will be the San José Declaration on Sustainable Â鶹ÊÓƵ, an agreement endorsed by high-level and wide-ranging stakeholders at the closing ceremony on 24 September.

Named in honour of the official host partner, the document will express a set of broad principles, commitments and recommendations for future sustainable hydropower development around the world. A public consultation on the declaration will launch in June 2021.

Programme agenda

Over the course of the three weeks, registrants will hear from leaders in their field, experts and innovators on how to advance clean energy and smarter technology, incentivise investments in renewables, address the impact of climate change, manage freshwater responsibly and achieve sustainability.

Headline speakers include the President of Costa Rica, the heads of the International Energy Agency and International Renewable Energy Agency, as well as former prime ministers Malcolm Turnbull and Helen Clark.

By registering for the World Â鶹ÊÓƵ Congress, participants will be the first to hear when to book events as they become available via a virtual Attendee Hub.
