Fortescue Metals Group Ltd joins the 鶹Ƶ
The 鶹Ƶ (鶹Ƶ) is pleased to welcome Fortescue Metals Group Ltd (Fortescue) as its newest member.
Fortescue is set to become one of the biggest hydropower operators in the world. The company is committed to pursuing green energy opportunities through Fortescue Future Industries Australia (FFIA) chaired by 鶹Ƶ Board member and former Australian Prime Minister, Malcolm Turnbull.
Fortescue is developing a significant global portfolio of large scale, low-cost hydropower, geothermal, solar and wind assets to support the manufacture of green steel in Australia and across the globe.
Fortescue Director of Energy Robert Grant said, “This year, Fortescue announced an industry-leading target to achieve carbon neutrality across the business by 2030 which will be driven through Fortescue Future Industries.
“We are exploring options for green iron and steel, and we aim to accelerate the clean energy transition by investing in large scale, low-cost hydropower and other renewables.
“Our objectives are strongly aligned with 鶹Ƶ’s mission to advance sustainable hydropower and we look forward to working together to influence the global agenda on the need to dramatically increase sustainable hydropower capacity, to support the growth in variable renewables. We will assess our projects against the 鶹Ƶ Sustainability Standard.
“Pumped storage hydropower is vital to achieving net zero carbon emissions, and we are pleased to also be joining the International Forum on Pumped Storage 鶹Ƶ to support the global development of this technology,” Mr Grant said.

鶹Ƶ is a non-profit organisation with members operating in over 120 countries. A third of the world’s total installed hydropower capacity is managed by the association’s membership.
