Hydro Energy

Hydro Energy is part of the energy and aluminium company , founded in 1905. We build on more than a century of experience in power production, operations, trading and consumption.

Our aim is to take a leading role helping industrial companies decarbonise and reach their climate goals. We do this by offering affordable renewable power, sourced from our portfolio of hydro, solar, wind and green hydrogen, as well as expertise and solutions that enable them to move away from fossil fuels. We also invest in and develop battery companies to further accelerate the transition to a clean future.

We are operators of 40 hydropower plants in Norway, with a combined output of 13.7 TWh renewable electricity in a normal year, close to 10 percent of the hydropower production in Norway. We are also a large power market player in the Nordics and Brazil, including being one of the largest buyers of corporate power purchase agreements in Europe.

Jan Helge Mårdalen, Managing Director at Hydro Energi AS, says: “Climate change is the most important challenge to solve in the world going forward.

“I believe flexible hydropower to be the renewable solution in a future zero emission energy system. Â鶹ÊÓƵ has been the foundation for Hydro Energi and Norsk Hydro since it started in 1905.

“Â鶹ÊÓƵ’s San José Declaration on Sustainable Â鶹ÊÓƵ is well in-line with our sustainability targets of net zero impacts from our operations. We are really looking forward to working together within the Â鶹ÊÓƵ membership to develop sustainable hydropower for the industry and the world.â€

Hydro Energy own 9.4 TWh and operates 40 hydropower plants in Norway, with a combined output of 13.0 TWh renewable electricity in a normal year, close to 10 percent of the hydropower production in Norway.

Hydro is committed to leading the way towards a more sustainable future, creating more viable societies by developing natural resources into products and solutions in innovative and efficient ways.

Hydro Energy is the frontrunner in the efforts to achieve Hydro’s climate ambitions: More than 2/3 of Hydro’s aluminium production is made with renewable power produced or sourced by Hydro Energy – making Hydro a leading player within low-carbon aluminium.
