COP23: Â鶹ÊÓƵ at United Nations climate conference

The world must invest in renewable energy to deliver on the ambition of the Paris Agreement to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees.

Producing over two-thirds of renewable electricity, hydropower has a major role to play in climate change solutions. Installed hydropower capacity worldwide has surpassed 1,250 GW, supplying more than a billion people with clean energy.

The Â鶹ÊÓƵ is representing its members at the UN Climate Change Conference. The summit, between 6 to 17 November, is convened under the presidency of the government of Fiji, and hosted in Bonn, Germany, the seat of the UNFCCC secretariat.

The conference represents an opportunity for renewable energy providers and proponents to showcase new and innovative ways to invest in a sustainable future for all. Events Â鶹ÊÓƵ is supporting include:

Renewables Working Together: Staying below 1.5°C with Renewable Energy

When: 6 November 2017; 15:00-16:30. Where: Meeting Room 9, Bonn Zone

Solar, wind, bioenergy, hydro and geothermal offer ready solutions to combat climate change. The side event hosted by the REN-Alliance, supported by Â鶹ÊÓƵ, will showcase the strengths of renewable energies and how they can be deployed to limit global warming to a 1.5°C increase. Find out more.

Global Renewable Energy Solutions Showcase

When: 7-8 November; 09:30-17:00. Where: KAH Bonn

The renewable energy industry will present technological solutions to climate change at a standalone event for COP23 delegates including government decision-makers, international organisations and NGOs. The showcase is themed around: access to energy and boosting new markets; and integrated 100% renewable energy systems. Find out more.

The Local Dimension of NDCs: 100% Renewable Energy

When: 9 November; 09:30-17:00. Where: German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety

Organised by Global 100% RE and the German Federal Environment Agency, this international forum is designed to promote concerted action and dialogue between sub-national and national governments, as part of an international campaign to move towards 100% renewable energy. Find out more.

The Water Energy Nexus: Promoting Equitable and Sustainable Use and Management of Water and Energy Resources for All

When: 10 November; 13:15-14:45. Where: Meeting Room 7, Bonn Zone

This partnership event hosted by UNFCCC and Itaipú Binacional will discuss the role of the hydroelectric sector in a low carbon economy, highlighting leadership in the face of climate change. The importance of maintaining ecosystem services when generating hydroelectric power will link the conversation around the implementation of the Paris Agreement and SDGs 6 and 7.
